SMALL CRANKBAITS

In all types or rivers and in each season, small crankbaits can deceive even large trout, known for their caution!

3-5 cm sized, small crankbaits often imitate a minnow, trout or other small coarse fish, and are equipped with one or two treble hooks.

Every time when caution is primary, a small crankbait is indispensable. Although small spinners and spoons have proved to be very effective so far, they still create strong vibrations which sometimes can, instead of attracting attention and provoking aggressive behaviour, warn of the danger, especially those trout which have already been caught and released.
On the contrary, the vibrations produced by the small crankbait are very discreet and similar to those made by a minnow or small trout. It is only necessary to adjust the swimming action to the speed of the river flow: slowly in river currents, and faster in calmer zones.

The most suitable tackle for using these kinds of lures is an ultra light rod equipped with a small reel, filled with monofilamnet line of 0,14 to 0,16 mm diameter, of neutral colour. It is unnecessary to do other swings; the distance of 6 to 8 m is quite enough for effective and detailed searching of shore edges, and ensuring precise casts. It is best to perform the casts below the rod.
This type of fishing demands a discreet approach to the water and great attention to the swimming action, especially during the first passage, because small crankbaits in most cases owe their success to the surprise effect!

The only flaw of small crankbaits are small hooks with which they are armed. This is why it is important to have strong and well perfected countering. If countering is not performed well, the trout will unhook as easily as it was hooked.
